  • Create performance rubrics

    Encourage People Ops/HR to reduce bias in performance reviews by defining the criteria against which performance is assessed. Create rubrics for performance and evaluations that are first agreed upon by managers and their team members.

  • Use structured questions

    Encourage People Ops/HR to use prompts and clear, structured questions to reduce bias in performance reviews. People are more likely to rely on stereotypes, such as race and gender, in the absence of structure.

  • Encourage joint goal setting

    Encourage managers to work with their team members to set performance, project, and/or task goals together. Including team members in the goal-setting process makes sure they feel heard and that their voice is included.

  • Reduce bias through structured interviews

    Encourage People Ops/HR to leverage structured interviews in the hiring process to reduce bias.

  • Promote effective DEI training

    Encourage People Ops/HR to provide opportunities for internal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training that focuses on both awareness about biases and skills for interaction.
